Pouakai Circuit

Mt Taranaki and the surrounding peaks have to be one of the North Island’s best kept secrets. Whilst most tourists flock to the Tongariro Crossing/Circuit, this walk absolutely deserves to be included in the best attractions of the North island and is only a few hours away from the Tongariro Crossing.

I’ve been here a number of times and it really is my favourite weekend trip from Auckland because of the diversity this track brings. Spend the weekend here, or if you have the time spend an extra night here and consider the side trips I mention in the guide.
